How We Read the Genesis Narrative
Was Adam formed outside the garden of Eden? Or was it inside? What assumptions do we make about the text in Genesis and what it means? . Today, the debate of whether it is a book of science or the story of the beginning of a covenant people continues to challenge the readers. Scholars are not as clear on the issue as well.
A recent discussion left one disputant in a statement of temporary paralysis when asked about “where” Adam was formed. Was it inside or outside of the garden? Why is this important? Several reasons are suggested.
One is, the two critical factors potentially impacting Adam’s life were placed inside the garden. What was the status of Adam before he was placed in the garden. Could he die given the fact that he’d never eaten of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil?
Could he have eternal life given the fact that he’d never, nor did he ever eat of the Tree of Life? The video below goes into more detail on this matter.
Adam Created Outside the Garden
More questions are raised relative to the purpose of the two trees. Are they essential for Adam’s physical life? What are the implications for Adam who was already living before entering the garden. If he had physical life could die physically? Is this origin of mankind. These questions presented in the video.
It is hoped that the viewer contemplates very thoughtfully on the question of whether Adam was created outside the garden. Is the word “created” even appropriate in light of the text says he was formed from the dust.
